Overview
This policy applies to the Minify desktop application, minify.video, and the account, purchase, support, update, and diagnostic services connected to them.
Video processing happens locally. Your video or audio content is not uploaded to us for compression. Separate online features—such as account access, payments, application updates, and optional diagnostics—require limited network communication described below.
Local video processing
Minify reads videos and related file-system information that you select so it can assess compatibility, estimate savings, encode, verify, replace, restore, or move recovery copies to your operating system’s Trash or Recycle Bin. These operations occur on your computer.
The app keeps a machine-local journal and settings needed for safety and recovery. These may contain selected file paths, file metadata, processing state, verification results, settings, and locally protected session information. They remain on the device unless you choose to share them with support.
Minify does not send video or audio content, filenames, paths, thumbnails, file hashes, FFmpeg commands or output, computer names, precise location, or device and serial identifiers through diagnostics.
Information we handle
Account and access information
If you create an account, our account provider processes your email address, account identifier, authentication records, confirmation status, and security/session data. Minify stores login credentials locally using operating-system encryption when it is available; otherwise the session is memory-only.
Trials, purchases, and entitlements
We process account identifiers, trial allowances and usage outcomes, checkout identifiers and status, product and entitlement records, and payment status. Our payment provider processes checkout and billing details, which may include your email, billing address, payment method information, tax information, country or region, transaction amount, currency, refunds, and disputes. We do not receive or store your full payment-card number.
Optional diagnostics
Anonymous diagnostics are enabled by default and can be disabled in the app’s account panel. They may include application and operating-system versions, a random diagnostic identifier, session identifier, aggregate scan and compression results, file counts and size totals, media characteristics, stable failure categories, and normalized system information.
On Windows, diagnostics may also include up to four bounded GPU model and driver strings, GPU vendor, selected encoder and policy version, the controlled FFmpeg build identifier, and encoder qualification state. Exact Windows hardware events use a new random identity for each app session and are not linked to an account or persistent diagnostic identifier. GeoIP enrichment, person profiles, screenshots, logs, and performance profiling are disabled.
Website and support
Our hosting and infrastructure providers may process standard request information such as IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamps, and security logs. If you contact us, we process the message, contact details, and any information you choose to provide.
How we use information
- Provide, secure, maintain, and troubleshoot Minify.
- Authenticate accounts and manage trial and purchased access.
- Complete checkout, verify payments, handle refunds or disputes, and keep financial records.
- Deliver updates and respond to support requests.
- Understand aggregate reliability and compatibility, diagnose failures, and improve the product when diagnostics are enabled.
- Prevent abuse, comply with legal obligations, and enforce our agreements.
Depending on where you live, our legal bases may include performing a contract with you, complying with law, our legitimate interests in operating and improving Minify, and consent where required.
Your choices and rights
You can turn diagnostics off in Minify’s account panel. Doing so stops future PostHog and Sentry calls from the app; information already accepted by those providers may remain under their configured retention policies.
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your account information, or object to or restrict certain processing where applicable. You may also have rights to portability, withdrawal of consent, and appeal or complain to your local data-protection authority. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request, and some records may be retained when required for security, fraud prevention, tax, accounting, or other legal obligations.
Removing Minify clears the application itself, but operating systems may retain local application data unless you remove it separately. Files you moved to Trash or Recycle Bin remain under your operating system’s controls.
Retention and security
Raw exact-hardware and encoder-qualification diagnostic events are retained for up to 90 days; longer-lived reporting is aggregate. Other information is retained only as long as needed for the purposes described here, including while your account is active and for applicable legal, security, dispute-resolution, and financial-record obligations.
We use technical and organizational safeguards appropriate to the information, including encrypted network connections, access controls, restricted client access to backend records, and operating-system protection for locally saved authentication data when available. No storage or transmission method is completely secure.
Children’s privacy
Minify is not directed to children under 13, or the minimum age required in their jurisdiction, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Contact us if you believe a child has provided information so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
International processing
Minify and its service providers may process information in countries other than the one where you live. Where required, we rely on recognized safeguards for international transfers and applicable provider commitments.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Minify changes or legal requirements evolve. We will publish the revised policy here and update the effective date. Material changes may also be communicated in the app or through another appropriate channel.
